WIP Wednesday

It is almost the end of June and I still need to make the Bee blocks for this month! These are the fabrics that Julie has sent us in the AusModBee for us to make some "Stashbusting Stars" from.
I have been trying to decide on which blocks I will make from these pretty fabrics as I don't really want to duplicate any of the blocks already done in the flickr group, so have cut a few squares ready to make some HST to use for the star patterns.
And for the Simply Solids Bee, we are all making a Double Nine Patch block using a tutorial from the Quilters Cache.

Super Tote # 2

I finished off the second Super tote which was gifted over the weekend to a couple expecting their first baby.
After making the first Super Tote a few weeks ago, I thought that it would make a great Nappy/Baby bag as it is so roomy.
I made the straps a little longer than indicated in the pattern so that the bag may be able to be hung over pram handles if needed.
And included a key fob on the inside of the front pocket so that keys would be easily accessible.
Whilst doing grocery shopping the other day, I found a cute little travel sized pack of baby shampoos and lotion which fitted perfectly into one of the elasticized pockets. I just made a  slip pocket for the other side of the bag.
I hope that this will be a bag that will get a lot of use over the coming years!

WIP Wednesday - Super Tote #2

I am off to a baby shower this weekend for one of the lovely ladies that I work with, and decided to make her a Super Tote, using the fabulous pattern by Anna @ Noodlehead.
I chose a variety of green fabrics for this bag as I am making it gender neutral and hopefully this will be a practical bag that she will be able to use for a while. I have cut the straps longer than indicated in the pattern so that the bag may be able to be hung over the pram handles if needed too.
I have also started on the quilting for my Simply Solids X and + quilt...

Modern Mini Challenge - Field Trip!

Jennifer at Ellison Lane quilts is hosting a Modern Mini challenge and pillows are included in the challenge too, so I thought that I would enter one that I made earlier this year!
This is the "Field Trip" pillow I made using a combination of Anna Maria Horner's Field Study fabric and some coordinating solids. I had a set of Matildas Own drunkards path templates which I used to make the 4"  blocks, so the pillow finishes at 16" square.
I used my hera marker to mark out grid lines approximately one inch apart for the quilting on this pillow and inserted a zipper for the back of the pillow for the first time.
And in keeping with the "Biology" theme, for the back I used the "Frogs Eggs" in multi print from the Sarah Fielke "On the Pond" range .

Le Challenge #3 - Maritime

The June theme for the challenge up at Le Challenge was "Maritime" so I thought that I would use this opportunity to make my dad a couple of zippered pouches that he had asked for.
My parents live by the beach and my father is a very keen fisherman, so this "Fishy" drill was just right for the pouch for him. I used some fusible interfacing for the inside.
And then I remembered this Sweetwater "Reunion" fabric with the years printed on it - I thought that it was perfect for him to keep his portable hard drive in for the History group that he is involved in.
And even better, it was Navy in colour - you can't get more Nautical than that!!

WIP Wednesday

At the last Sunday Sew-in at our LQS, I managed to get all of the blocks sashed in my Simply Solids Bee X and + quilt. After spending far too much time playing around with the layout of the blocks, I ended up sewing them together in our Fallow group order
When the fog lifted this morning, it was sunny enough to take the quilt top outside to take some photos...
And I managed to get a very colourful "stained glass" type pic too.

Baby, ohoh, Ba-by my sweet Ba-by you're the one!!!

My "baby" pillow is finished and sitting on our couch - and not in the corner of course!.
The ombre pink "Simply color" fabric for the binding was just right for this pillow - the colour gradually becomes darker then lighter again around the pillow.
I really like the pink and grey colour combo and chose one of the DS Aunt Edna prints for the back with a white zipper for the enclosure.

Birthday Books!

It is the Queens Birthday Long Weekend here in Australia, which also happens to coincide with my birthday. We have just spent a couple of days at my parents place at the beach and we all went out for a lovely birthday lunch, then had fresh fish for dinner as son#1 managed to catch a big flathead on his first cast, and son#2 reeled in two bream.
For my birthday, I was given some wonderful presents including two wonderful books: Liberty Love and Pillow Pop.
Of course, I had absolutely no idea guessed that I was going to receive these books, and had prepared for this by purchasing a few fat eighth bundles of Liberty fabrics a few weeks ago from the Quilter's Store stand at the Mad Quilter's show
Liberty fabrics are quite hard to come by here in Australia and I thought that it was a great opportunity to be able to add them to my stash. These bundles are from the newer Lifestyle/ Bloomsbury Gardens ranges.

WIP Wednesday

When I met up with Cat a few weeks ago, she was kind enough to bring me a pillow panel from the etsy store that she has with Vanita. I really love the quote from "Dirty Dancing" which was on TV again last week and as it is one of those "must watch movies", I stayed up to see it:)
I had some of the DS Aunt Edna pink check already for the back, and after I saw some of the pillows made up at the stand at the Mad Quilters show recently, I chose the pink ombre fabric from Simply Color to use for the binding.
And I have another little project in the works using this fabulous selvedge fabric..
