Sew Sew Modern 6 - received!

Earlier this week I received a lovely parcel from my SSM6 swap partner - Stephanie who blogs @ creative reveries.
She had wrapped it all up so beautifully and had little notes for me on each piece;)
I just had to do a couple of minutes sewing to fill the pincushion and then put the thread catcher set together.
Stephanie made me a gorgeous sewing machine cover with lots of colourful and fun quilty blocks amongst a low volume background. The ties are made from a measuring tape print too which is really cute!
And here is the cover on my sewing machine - it looks just amazing and I love the thread catcher set too!

Thanks so much to Mia and Karen for organsing the swap - just waiting to hear if my swap partner has received her package yet...

Sew Sew Modern 6 swap sent...

Last week I mailed off the parcel to my Sew Sew Modern 6 partner.
The main item I made was a mini quilt using the amazing "Repository" paper pieced pattern by Katie @ Good Golly Ginger.
I used fabrics from a variety of Anna Maria Horner collections to create a rainbow effect in the block then densely quilted it in lines radiating out from the centre.
The back of the quilt is a Cloud 9 print which shows the quilting on the mini better.
As one of the extra items, I made an armchair sewing caddy using a tutorial by Amy @ During Quiet Time. I used a few more AMH fabrics and featured the eucalyptus print on the front as this is coming from Australia.
I also made a little First Aid pouch using my tutorial as I think this will be handy for my partner (hint..hint...)
Hoping this doesn't take too long to travel to my partner, and that she enjoys this little parcel.
And also that the Tim Tams don't melt:(

2015 Q1 FAL list...

I have a few projects I would like to do for the first quarter FAL 2015 and I am really hoping to make use of my stash of fabric that I have here for most of these too!
2015 FAL at On the Windy Side
1. A mini Swoon quilt using Terra Australis fabric - I have the first block cut out ready to go...
2. The #aussiebagswap2015 item is due at the end of February..and I think I am going to try and cut into my stash of Cotton and Steel for this one...
 3. I also signed up for the #kittenmqs2015 mini quilt swap.  I have my partner and have just ordered some of the Lizzy House "Cat Nap"  fabrics to use for the blocks as I realised that don't have enough "cat" themed prints here to use - now if it was an elephant swap I would be fine:)
 4. And I think I need a Bruce in my life - pattern by Jodie @ Ric-Rac: after seeing the lovely versions made by Bendigolioness (Fiona) I might use some similar prints.
5. I have also cut into some Denyse Schmidt prints from my stash and now have these ready to sew into the blocks already ...
 6. I have started a Queen Bee bag from the Moda Bake Shop which will be handy to store rulers and cutting mats in.
7. I made a start on a Rainbow Ripple Rug earlier this month but it has been too hot to continue with it- so hoping once the weathers starts to cool off that I can finish it in time for winter!
8. Another small project using some shades of brown...
9. A new quilty project - only a sneak peek of this as I am pattern testing for Jess @  The Elven Garden
10. A mini quilt for the #igminiswap0z - I have made a practice block already:)

DS charm swap

I recently joined in a swap of Denyse Schmidt fabrics hosted by Tammie on flickr.
And last week I received all the charms back - there are over 100 in this bundle!.
We all sent in 2 different yards of DS fabrics cut into 5" charms and received a mix of them all back
I also swapped some of the Aussie only Piccadily fabrics (blues and greens) with Andrea @ crabapplequilts, along with some of the older DS prints that were only available here in Australia.
And she sent me back some FQ of the new DS "Sweet Ruby" range .
Thank you so much Tammie for organisng the charm swap and also to Andrea for a great side swap:)

FAL Q4 link up

On my FAL Q4 list, I had quite a few projects to do and much to my surprise, I actually got everything done on this list!! Here is a bit of a rundown of each project, with a link back to the post/photo.
1. Poolside tote: a big and bright beach bag which I used again on Christmas Day to take all of our towels, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses etc for the day in.
 2. Weekender Bag: This was mainly made using Chicopee scraps from my feathers quilt and  features the "Priscilla Queen of the Burbs" cockatoo panel from Cat & Vee on the other side.
3. Noodlehead Super Totes for Christmas gifts: I made all 5 of these production line style which made it a lot easier.
4. "Outlander" Nova Tote using the pattern by Three Owls Handmade: I used some of the lovely Tula Pink Moonshine Deer print and some AMH thistles fabric for this tote.
5. Sew Together Bag for a gift: I used some Lotta Jansdotter "Echo" fabric for this one.

6. IG mini swap - my partners had this mini in her mosaic and as her name was Bonnie  I decided to use some Bonnie & Camille prints to make her a "Dwell" mini.
7. A "Leo" birthday bag" for my mum - as I was on a bit of a roll with the Super totes, I decided to do one for her also, using some different lion-themed Cotton and Steel "August" prints for each side.
8. Elephant pillow: I tested this fabulous elephant paper-pieced pattern for Juliet @ Tartan Kiwi and have made it into a fun pillow.
9. Sew Sew Modern 6 swap: I used the "Repository" paper pieced pattern by Katie @ Good Golly Ginger to make this mini quilt using a rainbow of AMH fabrics.
10. The "High Tea" quilt that I tested the pattern for Adrianne @ "On The Windy Side".
So a 10/10 for me:) Linking up with Katy @ The Littlest Thistle.

Elephant pillow

My first finish for 2015 is a bright Elephant pillow using a paper pieced block I made a few months ago .

I had tested this block for Juliet @ Tartan Kiwi  and still had the block sitting here but wanted to make it into something...

After seeing the Dala Horse pillows that Debbie @ A Quilters Table had made, I decided to add similar borders to make it into a pillow which ended up at about 16" square.

Then, I just did a simple grid pattern and after marking out the first line of a big "x" through the centre with my hera marker, just lined the sewing foot up against the previously quilted line for each new row of quilting.
This was the first project I quilted on my new sewing machine that hubby bought me for Christmas
I still need to work out the setting for a 1/4 inch seam and remember seeing a tutorial on how to do it a while ago but I need to find it again and Pin it!

So this was the final project on my 2014 Q4 FAL list - will post about it all tomorrow!
